Story 2 - Kangu
Now you have learned some things about Australia. This is the habitat of Kangu. But who is Kangu?
Kangu is a small kangaroo. Our Kangu is quite lively and very curious. He and his family make their home under dense, low trees. A big steppe spreads around this little forest. Do you know steppes?
There it is flat. Sometimes there are larger and smaller bushes and now and then small hills. Because it is often very flat, Kangu and his friends often have races there. But also long jumping and high jumping. So you can imagine that there is a lot of dust. And who is usually the winner? Of course Kangu!
Yes, he is not the strongest and also still quite small, but running, long jumping and high jumping, he can.
Kangu has many friends. First of all his best kangaroo friends: "Benni", "Lowi" and "Tok". But there are also friends who are not kangaroos: There is the clumsy "Wombi", which is a wombat. You have to imagine the appearance of a wombat like a hamster, only much bigger. Wombi lives in a burrow he built that goes deep and far into the earth. Kangu has already been able to take a look inside the entrance of his cave.
Then there is "Renni", an emu. Do you know an emu? Maybe you have seen an ostrich in a zoo. This is how you have to imagine an emu. It has two long legs and a rather bushy plumage. With their very long neck and a small head with a beak, they are constantly on the move, watching everything that happens around them.

The special thing about emus is that they can run really, really fast. Kangu has to make quite an effort to keep up with "Renni". Actually, he only manages to do that by jumping big, so that "Renni" has to take 4 steps for the same distance.
So Kangu has a nice home, good friends and lots of fun. But because he is very curious, he would like to see something else. Something he had only heard about from stories: the... sea.
